Trekking

The North of Thailand is recognised as the centre of this pursuit, with forests full of birds, animals and orchids.

The mountains are home to several hill tribes, such as Akha, Hmong, Karen, Lahu, and Lisu and trekkers can stay overnight in the villages. Trekking expeditions usually last from one to three days and
include other activities such as elephant rides, bamboo rafting, visits to hot springs and swimming below waterfalls.

Different treks are geared toward different degrees of physical fitness. Mostly, they consist of no more than four or five hours of walking a day, with breaks for lunch and relaxation. Points of departure for trekking are Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son and Chiang Rai.
