Hospitals have their own pharmacy on site, and will dispense the medication prescribed by the doctor. Though hospital pharmacies tend to be slightly more expensive than outside pharmacies, the guidelines for taking the medicine will be explained to you, whereas that will not always be the case in outside pharmacies.

If you need to take a course of medication over a long time, it may be worth to “shop” around the local pharmacies.

Most commonly used drugs are available in Thailand and most can be bought over the counter and generic drugs can cost a fraction of the price of brand name drugs. However, be aware that newly released drugs in the US and Europe may not instantly be available.
